The accused confessed to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A man who contaminated treats with sedative and gave them to children at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males both nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and one adult fell ill at the location in July.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

However, he disputed one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer program which he operated.

The man engaged in a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor stated, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained the defendant had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had concerns in July 2025.

The prosecutor stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the activities, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC stated items including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated the defendant continued to play the "candy game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She said the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
